With the 2005 edition, the 10th in the history of this international competition, the International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary and Reportage is gaining in originality.

 The programme 2005

The event’s prestige in the international community of quality audiovisual professionals and its importance among television broadcasters, producers, and writers/directors are on the increase.

First of all, the Prize with its INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION, which now comprises five official prizes and four special prizes, three of which consist of the broadcasting of the winning entries. It has also become an authoritative and rigorous point of reference and of professional and production guidance for the entire Euro-Mediterranean area, thanks to:

  • its thematic approach (gathering together and comparison of works dealing with the cultures and current affairs of the Mediterranean region);
  • the authoritativeness of the prizes awarded, which encourage the promotion of documentaries and quality reporting;
  • the role attributed to television in producing and disseminating quality documentaries (through the special prizes providing for broadcast on RAI3, RAI SAT Premium, France 3, and ENTV);

This year, also, the number of works coming from an increasingly large group of areas (Mediterranean, Near East, Europe, North America) and countries interested in Mediterranean issues has continued to grow.

The International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary and Reportage, which has been held in Italy since 1996, also intensifies THE SYMBIOSIS WITH THE HOSTTERRITORY by:

  • choosing the ancient Market of Ortygia in Syracuse as the venue of the 10th edition of the Prize;
  • increasing the importance of the NATIONAL COMPETITION, which awards the “Sud-Est Sicilia” Special Prize;
  • launching – with this edition – a FILM SHORT MARATHON WITH PRIZES alongside the International Competition and the National Competition;
  • organizing, during the Prize event, important meetings in Syracuse involving international audiovisual and investigative journalism professionals;
  • establishing an interesting synergy between the holding of the event and the cultural activities of the city and the region;
  • multiplying the number of free public screenings.
