The 10th edition of the International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary and Reportage takes place in two phases:
- The selection of the competing works is held in Marseilles, France, at the headquarters of the CMCA, the Mediterranean Centre for Audiovisual Communication.
2005 Regulations
The International Selection Committee is made up of documentary, cinema, and television professionals from the northern and southern Mediterranean areas, together with representatives of the CMCA, INA (Institut National de l’Audiovisuel), and RAI.
The International Selection Committee chooses 30 films, six for each prize category, for the final competition phase in Italy.

- meeting of the International Jury awarding the prizes
- seminars and discussions of the works chosen as finalists
- award ceremony for the winning programmes

THE INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
The 2005 10th edition features five official prizes:
- CMCA “Mediterranean Challenges” Grand Prize (€ 6,000) for the documentary that best illustrates the challenges of the Mediterranean area, offering original viewpoints for interpreting the current situation. This category features works that are able to provide depth and insight into the flow of events and lend an ear to the protagonists.
- “Memories of the Mediterranean” Prize (€ 5,000) for the documentary that, with or without the aid of archival material, best expresses the capacity for rendering past events topical. This category features works that know how to tell individual or collective stories of men, women, places, and memories of the Mediterranean.
- “Documentary Writing” Prize (€ 5,000): this category evaluates the originality, idea quality, creativity, and writing talent expressed in the content, writing, and form of the documentary.
- “Mediterranean Art and Heritage” Prize (€ 5,000) for the documentary that best contributes to enhancing the heritage (a site, monument, or object of art) and artistic expressions (music, plastic arts, entertainment, visual arts) of the Mediterranean area. The quality of the content and the filmmaking craftsmanship are considered.
- “Mediterranean Reporting” Prize (€ 5,000) for the best report (minimum length 8 minutes) filmed on a topical Mediterranean subject. This category considers the quality of the journalistic investigation and the filmmaking craftsmanship.
These prizes will be awarded jointly to the directors and writers of the winning programmes.
THE SPECIAL AWARDS of the International Competition
For the 2005 edition, the official awards have been joined by four special awards, which contribute to giving the International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary and Reportage an increasingly incisive role in the dissemination of quality documentaries:
- “RAI for the Mediterranean” Special Prize, inclusive of all categories. The prize will consist of the broadcasting of the work by RAI 3. It will be awarded on the basis of the final decision of the International Jury’s RAI 3 representative, and the programme will be broadcasted subject to a specific agreement between the network and the authors of the winning entry.
- “ENTV for the Mediterranean” Special Prize, inclusive of all categories. The prize will consist of the broadcasting of the work by ENTV. It will be awarded on the basis of the final decision of the International Jury’s ENTV representative, and the programme will be broadcasted subject to a specific agreement between the network and the authors of the winning entry.
- “France 3 for the Mediterranean” Special Prize (€ 5,000), inclusive of all categories. The prize will be awarded on the basis of the final decision of the International Jury’s FRANCE 3 representative and will go to a work chosen from among all the competition entries.
- “RAI SAT for the Art and Heritage of the Mediterranean” Special Prize, awarded to one of the finalist works of the “Art and Heritage of the Mediterranean” category. The prize will consist of the broadcasting of the film by RAI SAT Premium. It will be awarded on the basis of the final decision of the International Jury’s RAI SAT representative, and the programme will be broadcasted subject to a specific agreement between the network and the authors of the winning entry.
THE INTERNATIONAL JURY
The International Jury is made up of documentary, cinema, and television professionals appointed jointly by the CMCA, RAI, and the organizing city, for a total of 15 internationally renowned members.
