GUARDA IL TRAILER
1957. A group of village folk of Peroguarda in Alentejo,in the South of Portugal, present themselves singing, at Porto.The poet, Antonio Reis, future film director of “Tras-OsMontes” and “Ana”, hears them sing, conquered and in awe by their music, starts to make the way of Peroguarda, which is situated 700 kilometers to the South, bringing along a tape recorder.
1959. Michel Giacometti, the man from Corsica,who saved the traditional Portuguese Folk music, starts a research of 30 years, during which he collects memories of the Folk music. Shortly after he discovers the village of Peroguarda,and returns periodically.
1966. The cinema operator Paulo Rocha, one of the film directors who will give life to the Portuguese “cinema nova “along with his first film “Les Vertes Annees”, decides to shoot his second film at Furadouro, creating the plot among the fisherman that fascinated him so much during his childhood: people belonging to an easygoing clan, who one recognizes at a first encounter.
Pierre-Marie Goulet leads us through a “poetic path” of hypnotic scenes, of persons who lead to a “place” made of colors .
Pierre-Marie Goulet became a film director in the 70’s: “Corps Morts”, “Naissance”, “O Gaule”, “Ici”, “Balade”, “Au Pere Lachaise”achieved with Jean-Daniel Pollet, “Plage”, “Faits et Dits de Nasreddin”, “Polifonias – Paci and Saluta”, “Michel Giacometti” are some of his works.
At present, he is finishing “A Casa e a Musica”, about the City of Music of Porto, executed by the architect Rem Koolhaas.
Author of original and adapted scripts, Pierre-Marie Goulet has translated dialogues of Portuguese films into French : “En avant, jeunesse! “, “Dans la Chambre de Vanda” and “Le Sang” of Pedro Costa, “Qui es-tu? “ of Joao Botelho, “La Commedie de Dieu” and “Les Noces de Dieu” of Joao Cesar Monteiro.
In charge of programming, he did “Um Rio, Duaas Margens”at DocLisboa (2002) and “O Olhar de Ulysses”.From 2001 he takes part of the accomplishment of the atelier “O Primeiro Olhar” (the first glance),a new approach to the cinema for the young, from the ages of 10 to 16, and organized by the Portughese Association “Os Filhos de Lumiere” in which he is co-founder.

In Romania, under the Communist regime, the musical bands of the village folk would participate to the festivals organized in the cities, and it was in this period that they reached their glory.With the closure of industries, and the returning of workers to the poverty of their country villages, this music, played during marriages, baptisms, and funerals, was the most precious thing they had left, an exceptional mixture of Romanian traditions, military music, Austrian musical bands, and Western rythms (Turkish, Gypsy…) that survived in this region at the bounderies between Asia and Europe, Moldavia. Music that is representative of the people: full of life, nostalgic and intensely various.
Corneliu Gheorghita,has been teaching at the audiovisual high school in the university of Toulouse (France) since 1991. He has shot eight short films, two of which films adapted from the text of Samuel Beckett, and has written original scripts for a number of films: “La Colline”, “Les Fauves”, “Garantie a vie” and “Monsieur Moscu”. In 2004 he won the Prize for the Best Script attributed by the Romanian Television channel HBO for “Europolis”. Since 1998 he has been working at the creation of numerous documentary and experimental films in Romania.

Seventy years ago,German planes bombarded the city of Guernica obeying to the orders of General Franco. The Basque city was reduced to ashes. The brutality of the attack inspired Picasso to paint his masterpiece “Guernica”. To this day , the painting is considered to be the universal cry of revolt against the cruelty of the wars.
Santiago Torres , since 1990 he has been working as reporter at the Televisio de Catalunya, and specially for the news magazine “30 Minuts” for which he has accomplished more than 50 documentaries and reportage. He achieved the mediatic covering of many conflicts in different parts of the world. His film “Joaquin Martinez”,about a Spaniard sentenced to death in the U.S.A, was used as evidence during the trial, and Martinez was judged innocent and released. Among his various rewards, the film director received the International Ondas Prize and the Human Rights Prize, given by the Catalano Parlament.

This “film diary” tells the story of the currently famous “Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio”, band, created as an initiative by Mario Tronco, key board player of the Avion Travel , and Agostino Ferrente. In the roman area of Esquillino, where the Italians are of an ethnic minority,they get together a group of street musicians, and non, coming from all over the world.
Five years of documentation, thirty musicians, fithteen nationalities,five cinema operators, four technicians, three sound specialists, an area, a recuperated film, a cultural association, a director of orchestra and a film director for the extraordinary mixture of multicultural stories, humanity and music,it is not only a dream come true, but a choice of life, work and a family.
Agostino Ferrente, born in 1971 on the 28th of October at Cerignola (Foggia), is a film director, producer and artistic director. Assistant director to Silvano Agosti and Nico Cirasola, thanks to his short films “Poco piu della meta di zero” in 1993 and “Opinioni di un pirla” in 1994, receives his first acknowledgements in international festivals.Shoots with Giovanni Piperno and produces with his “Pirata manifatture cinematografiche” two multiple prized documentaries: “Intervista a mia madre” and “Il film di Mario”. In 2001, he founded the group Apollo 11 in Rome, that saved the “cinema theatre Apollo” an institution in Rome, that was to become a recreation center. Together with Mario Tronco, part of the Avion Travel, he created the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, which later became a film.

In this century where progress is seen and heard of, only by speed and advanced technologies, Hang, a percussion instrument, made out of a simple piece of tin, appears:
Modou dreamt and wished that someone or something would fall out of the skies. It wasn’t a person, but an instrument. The Hang with its sounds, Modou and his music, il sufj jazz. So, from one frontier to another, an echo repeats itself, through the experience of a journey and its festival of languages. An itinerary, of sacred music in a world, that in the long run, doesn’t seem to be so profane, as it makes us believe it is…… passing through cities as Bern, Paris and Cairo.
Mino Dutertre was born in Angers in 1966. After twelve years of scientific journalism for the television,he then decides to create documentary films. “Modou le joueur de Hang” is his first film.
