A dossier filmed in Albania, a country which, at the same time, is near to us for its history, its immigration, but also very distant. It is a country of 3,5 million of inhabitants, that changes at an eye’s glance, and which produces contrasts. In Tirana, one can easily buy a kalachnikov, or heroin, that costs only 5 euro a gram. Instead, the tourism in Valona is at its climax. While at Scuteri an old custom still exists, called “kanun”, a tribe law based on revenge, nearly impossible to annihiliate. But at the same time, in Albania there are 35 newspapers and 95 tv channels.

society of today after the last political elections, and which at present is beginning to examine its problems more attentively. Under the impulse of Mohamed VI, the country launched itself in an intense campaign of modernisation, which includes the programme of colossal infrastructures investments, tourism and new technologies. But a Moroccan out of seven still lives in poverty, nearly a Moroccan out of two doesn’t know how to read nor write. Today there is a race towards development which is backed by modernisers focusing on western countries; and, those of whom, are the traditional supporters of Muslim orthodoxy.
