The International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary and Reportage was founded at Monte Carlo, Principality of Monaco in 1994,and where the 1995 edition was held.
Since 1996 the Festival has been organized by the CMCA in agreement with the RAI, and in collaboration with local entities, and Italian regions.
The selection of the works in competition, take place, both at the headquarters and by the CMCA, in Marseille, while the final stage of the Festival is executed by the RAI, and the  winning awards are assigned in Italy :

Since 2001,the Artistic Director of the Prize has been the Secretary General of the CMCA, Paolo Morawski (RAI).

The Internazional Prize for Mediterranean  Documentary and Reportage is an International Competition that is held annually thanks to the the agreement between the CMCA – Mediterranean Centre of Audiovisual Communication, and the RAI.
 
The Prize is appointed to Audiovisual Productions, that in the specific field of the documentary, reportage, and film investigations, deal with themes and interrogatives, in an authentic way, that characterize the cultural area of the Mediterranean in wide range, from the Atlantic coasts to the shores of the Black Sea.

The Prize is open to all Television broadcasters (public or private), to production companies (public, private, associative),to authors, directors, journalists and documentary makers, who through their works and programmes, promote both, the past and present history of the Mediterranean cultures and traditions. Both civil and artistic confrontation are privileged themes

The Prize, has reached its 13th edition. It  rewards the quality of the works, both in their content and artistic form. With a threefold aim:  to strengthen the visibility of those audiovisual works held in esteem, which deal and highlight the  themes that underline: society, culture,  history, heritage, art, and current issues that deal with the countries facing the Mediterranean area;  facilitating and spreading its knowledge, and awareness; thus to promote the broadcasting of the best Audiovisual Productions.

The Prize aims to give new impulse to both, professional exchanges, and reciprocal understanding, with the objective to contribute to an authentic and constructive dialogue, and to create co-operation among the countries of the area. Every year, the calendar of the events, offers training activities on documentary and reportage. International meetings are held on the quality of Audiovisual creativity and production, regarding the Mediterranean.

The Prize is an occasion, and an important reference for Audiovisual professionals to exchange experiences, and knowledge, finalizing to construct useful International ties

THE CMCA

CMCA, Centre Méditerranéen de la Communication Audiovisuelle (link to the official site), is a non governing body founded in 1986 that unites the main broadcasting organizations of televisions, producers, and Audiovisual operators of the Mediterranean area in wide range.
