the events

The aim of this edition of the Prize, is to, above all, give a cultural proposal of prestige to the city of Turin, with the videotech “on demand”, public screenings, master classes, and the International debate that explores the potentiality of the digital era, and Internet

the videotech

Daily from 10:00am to  22:00pm.
Core and key attraction of the 13th edition of the International Prize for Mediterranean Documentary and Reportage is the Videotech open to the public for personalized screenings of films in and out of competition of the 2008 edition, together with film winners of the past editions. Set up, and organized in the Palazzo della Radio in Via Verdi 31, the Videotech of the Prize accomodates 54 users with 27 screens, offering approximately 130 hours of films, otherwise unlikely traceable. The idea is to present a “full immersion” to discover documentary in all its possible forms and variations for an entire week.
Film finalists of the International and National Competition of the 2008 edition
Film winners of the past editions, from 2000 to 2007
Films out of competition organized in 4 reviews:
Piedmontese Documentaries: a selection of documentaries by the Film Commission Torino Piemonte, and DAMS/Laboratorio G.Quazza.
Sardinian Documentaries: arranged into two sections: Sardinian Archives, a selection of Documentaries produced by RAI Sardinia, and the Documentaries of the Superior Sardinian Ethnographic Institute.
Sicilian Documentaries, selected by the Film Commission Region of Sicily
Rai Documentary and Reportage in collaboration with RAI Teche and with RAI Cinema.

the public screenings

A review of Documentaries entitled “RAI Documentary and Television Report” Important authors and Film d’essai: a selection of documentaries and reportage of the last decades, produced by RAI and accomplished by significant authors of both journalism, and Italian culture. In collaboration with RAI Teche and RAI Cinema, and Television Report.
A daily schedule of 3-4 screenings, in collaboration with Cinema Massimo and King Kong Microplex.

the meetings

-Four Master Classes: Art of Archives, Art of Reportage, Art of Documentary (meeting with one of the winning film Directors of the 2007 edition), and the Art of TV programming of Documentaries, in collaboration with Dams/Laboratorio Multimediale G. Guazza..

International Debate entitled Internet, Digital Technology and Audiovisual Memories of the Mediterranean. Taking the example from the Pioneer spirit of looking ahead into the future. At present, all the countries that overlook the Mediterranean shores and coasts, are carrying out projects in digitalization of their own Audiovisual Archives, and not merely conserving and saving material that otherwise would be lost…Once the restoration work has been achieved, it is necessary to modify the material, so it can be utilized, by introducing new life to past events and evoke memories of yesterday.
Through network today, addressing and focusing on its users is much easier (in theory). Various conceptions exist on the possibility and opportunity to access on-line to images and sounds of a high quality cultural value:
What does “offering service to one’s own public mean”?
Must service be free, or must it be payable”?
Starting from various concrete models of International sites, and audiovisual database, the Meeting will try to      identify differences and points in common.
In collaboration with the BBC, INA, France Television, Politecnico of  Turin and RAI

Presentation of Documentary projects supported by  Piemonte Doc Film Fund.
In collaboration with Film Commission Torino Piemonte and Cinema Massimo.

Meeting with Associations and Mediterranean Communities of the Region in occasion of the public screening of the film selected by the ASBU (Arab States Broadcasting Union).
In collaboration with the  Province of  Turin.

Meeting with  the Awarded Film Directors of all the various categories of the Prize, and public screening of their films in original language
In collaboration with  the Association Documè.

Training Seminary CMCA-ASBU. For the fourth year running, the Prize offers an original training course on Documentary and Reportage, and by now, a result of a solid and strong collaboration between the CMCA and ASBU. Dedicated to the film directors and authors coming from the Southern shores of the Mediterranean..
